Among the Gumtrees

Fascinated by rural Australia, I wanted to capture the beauty and simplicity of the Australian landscape. Inspired by the Australian classic Give me a Home among the Gumtrees, the piece celebrates the familiar sights of the Australian countryside. Created from layers of stained plywood and a little patience, the piece uses depth and texture to bring this quintessentially Australian scene to life.

A Little Buzzkill

Bright, fast and notoriously difficult to spot, the rainbow bee-eater is a small bird with plenty of personality. After seeing signs around the barracks during breeding season, I set on the mission to spot one. When I finally did, I knew I had to capture its colour and energy in watercolour.

My Seacret

Whilst snorkelling, I was drawn to the contrast between the turtle's immense, almost majestic presence beneath the water and the way it can disappear into its surroundings. Using the transparency of watercolour, I wanted the turtle to appear as though it was emerging and disappearing back into the patterns of the water.

A Visit from Odette

Familiar and unmistakeable, the black swan is an enduring part of the WA landscape and my local lake. These birds have a remarkable way of moving quietly and gracefully, whilst still exuding a powerful presence. The Moonglow pigment used to capture her beauty and energy whispered her name to me.
